Receiving email while transferring a domain name
When you transfer your domain name to us, there will be a period during which some email still arrives at your old provider and some arrives with us. This need not be a problem at all, and this article helps you manage it properly.
- You probably use an email program to collect your email from your current provider. Somewhere in this email program you have entered the incoming mail server, usually something like mail.yourdomain.xx or pop3.yourdomain.xx. Look up this name. Then go to https://www.weboke.nl/zoekipnummer, enter the mail server there and write down the IP address that is shown. Then enter this IP address in your email program instead of your domain name. Afterwards, check that collecting email still works.
- Next, create the email address in our control panel as well (you can only do this once you have received the account details of the hosting package from us, immediately after payment). If needed, you can find information in the FAQ on how and where to create email addresses.
- Then add this account to your email program too. For the incoming and outgoing mail server, do not enter your domain name but the server name. You will find this server name in the email with your account details, usually something like winXX.webawere.nl or linuxXX.webawere.nl. Afterwards, check that collecting email works without errors. No mail will arrive there yet, because your domain has not been transferred yet.
Once you have completed these steps, you will not miss a single email when your domain name is transferred, because you keep emptying both the mailbox with us and the one at your old provider. After a few days you can delete the old mailbox.
