How do I check whether my domain points to the right server?

When you type your domain name into your browser, the browser automatically takes you to the WebOké server where your domain is hosted. At least, it should.

It may be, for example, that your domain has not (quite) been transferred yet, but it may also be that something is set incorrectly somewhere. You can run a few checks for this.

Check whether the domain points to our servers
Go to http://mxtoolbox.com/DNSLookup.aspx and enter your domain name there, including www. For example: www.zoekopnummer.nl

  • If no A record appears (under type), your DNS with us is not in order. One cause may be that your domain has not yet been added to the hosting package.
  • Check the IP address shown under IP Address. You do this by logging in at mijn.weboke.nl, going to My Products and opening the hosting package in question. The IP address shown there should match the IP address shown earlier.
    • If it does not match, your domain does not end up on our servers. If reported by does not show ns1.webawere.nl or ns2.webawere.nl, the domain is not using our nameservers. If the domain has not been transferred yet, this will sort itself out. If you are not transferring the domain name, you need to enter our nameservers at your current provider. Search our FAQ for hosting only for an explanation. If the domain is managed by us, you can enter our nameservers yourself at mijn.weboke.nl under My Domains.
    • If the IP address almost matches (the last digit is different), the domain may point to the wrong server at our end. In that case, please contact us

If all of the above is in order and you still do not end up on our server, something may be set incorrectly locally on your side.

Check whether you do end up on our server via www.surfert.nl

Go to www.surfert.nl and enter your domain name there. If your site is shown there, the problem lies with your computer, your network or the proxy/DNS servers you use (perhaps through work or similar). In that case, continue with this article.

Check whether your computer shows the same IP address

  1. Open a command prompt on your computer. You can do this via the Start menu, Run, and then typing cmd. A window will then open.
  2. Type: ping www.zoekopnummer.nl (replace zoekopnummer.nl with your own domain name).
    1. C:\Users\mdk>ping www.zoekopnummer.nl
    2. You will then see something like this:
      1. Pinging www.zoekopnummer.nl [83.96.159.12] with 32 bytes of data:
        Reply from 83.96.159.12: bytes=32 time=8ms TTL=57
        Reply from 83.96.159.12: bytes=32 time=8ms TTL=57
    3. The IP address shown in square brackets should match the IP address we looked up earlier with DNSLOOKUP.
      1. If the IP address is different, you may be using your own (business) DNS that still has the old DNS details cached. In that case, contact the administrator and ask them to check this
      2. Make sure your domain name does not appear in your hosts file. Click here for an explanation. Remove the lines that contain your domain name.
