My website does not work after uploading (FTP)

If a website does not work, or does not work properly, there can be many causes. We list the most important ones here:

You end up on our page
1) The file index.html has not been deleted. Delete it.
2) Your cache still has the old page loaded. Clear your browser cache.
3) Check that you have actually put the site in /domains/uwdomeinnaam.xx/public_html

The site loads, but some images and/or pages do not
Check whether you use capital letters in file names. The system your website runs on (Linux) is case-sensitive.
So if you have a link to fotopagina.html and the file is called Fotopagina.html with a capital letter, it cannot find it.

The site does not load
1) Check that you have actually put the site in /domains/uwdomeinnaam.xx/public_html
2) Check that you have an index.html, index.htm or index.php. Make sure these are not in capital letters
3) Have you perhaps changed the permissions so that there is no access? For example .htaccess?
