Sending email from multiple aliases, error: Account xxx can not send emails from

Since the latest DirectAdmin update, our mail servers check more strictly who is allowed to send from which email address. This prevents malicious parties from easily spoofing your mailboxes.

What does this mean for you?

When you log in to a mailbox, you can now only send emails from:

  • The email address you log in with
  • Aliases of that email address
  • Forwarders that forward to your mailbox (provided they are on the same server)

Want to send email from multiple email addresses?

Practical example: You are logged in to your email program as support@jedomein.nl, but you also want to be able to send email from info@jedomein.nl without adding info@jedomein.nl as a mailbox in your email program. Because of the security update, this no longer works automatically.

Option 1: Add both mailboxes to your email program
Add both info@jedomein.nl and support@jedomein.nl as separate accounts in Outlook, Thunderbird or Apple Mail. When writing an email, you can then choose which address to send from.

Option 2: Give mailboxes permission to send on each other's behalf
If you want to send from multiple addresses with one login:

  1. Set up a forwarder: info@jedomein.nl → support@jedomein.nl
  2. Log in with support@jedomein.nl
  3. You can now send email from both addresses (info@ and support@)

The forwarder gives support@ permission to send email on behalf of info@.
