Error message: 550 5.5.0 Requested action not taken: mailbox unavailable

Description: This error message occurs when an email cannot be delivered because the recipient's mailbox is unavailable. This can have various causes, such as an invalid email address, a full mailbox or technical problems on the recipient's side.

Possible causes:

  1. Invalid email address:

    • The email address entered does not exist or contains a typo.
  2. Full mailbox:

    • The recipient's mailbox has reached its maximum storage capacity.
  3. Technical problems:

    • The recipient's mail server is experiencing temporary problems.

Solutions:

  • Check the email address:

    • Make sure the email address is spelled correctly and exists.
  • Contact the recipient:

    • Use another means of communication to check whether the recipient can solve the problem, for example by freeing up space in the mailbox.
  • Wait and try again later:

    • If the problem is due to temporary server problems, sending the email again later may succeed.

Additional information: This error message is a standard SMTP status code indicating that the email could not be delivered because of a problem with the recipient's mailbox. For more details about SMTP status codes, see the list of SMTP server return codes.
